Dry Skin Patches
How To Effectively Treat Dry Skin Patches
Nothing is quite so irritating as dry skin patches . . . except my neighbor, but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any cure for that, except to move house. Anyway, dry skin patches really are irritating too, especially if they’re in constant need of scratching or, horror of horrors, they’re in a place which is clearly visible for the whole world to see. I know that you can treat individual dry skin patches by rubbing in your favorite cream or moisturizer, but what about changing your lifestyle and adopting an overall strategy to really improve the overall quality of your skin . . . how’s that for an idea.
Some Possible Causes for Dry Skin Patches
Some people have skin which is naturally drier than others . . . we can’t do anything about our genes (unfortunately I’ve got my fathers nose and I wish he’d take it back) but there are other reasons why skin can become dry and itchy.
Dry skin patches can form as the result of an injury for example, when parts of your skin have been injured and, even though it heals in time it might be left a little drier than it used to be.
Dry skin patches and wrinkles (closely related unfortunately) can appear around your eyes and mouth if you smoke, aging you prematurely . . . . just one more great reason to stop puffing!
Dry skin patches can be caused by excessive sunbathing, on any areas which have been exposed!
Dry skin patches may appear if you’ve been shut up inside for long periods of time. Workplaces are often designed to save money not your facial complexion . . . especially during the winter when you might be locked up for long periods of time whilst artificial heating is blasting around to keep you warm. Areas of the face and arms can develop dry skin patches, and any other areas which are regularly exposed!
Dealing With Dry Skin Patches
You are what you eat . . . think about that for just one moment . . . what does that make you? Are you a fresh crispy salad, a little on the green side but definitely crunchy . . . or are you more of a soggy donut? Anyway, your diet seriously affects your body on the inside and on the outside. If your skin isn’t receiving enough of the essential nutrients it needs . . . then how is it ever gonna have a radiant shine? Take a critical look at your dietary habits . . . and be honest! Excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine depletes moisture from the body, as well as too much refined sugar products and saturated fat. If, however, you are a “fresh crispy salad” type person then all of the essential vitamins and minerals which your skin needs will be naturally included in your diet.
Do not be tempted to rub your dry skin patches . . . no matter how irritating they are. Gently dab on a little moisturizing cream (don’t rub, that can make it even itchier), because once you start itching you’ll never want to stop. Think about how long you lay in the tub, and what you’re actually soaking your skin in. If you use a harsh or abrasive soap and lounge in the “contaminated” water for hours, then you’re asking for trouble. Limit your bath times and use natural oatmeal soap for a very positive step forward when it comes to dealing with dry skin patches.
Okay, so we’ve already said that dry skin needs natural soaps and shampoos, avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive products as much as you can, and don’t stand in the shower for hours on end . . . #1 it’s not good for your dry skin and #2 there might be somebody else waiting to use it! I know that it’s tempting to give yourself a good rub down after a shower, but don’t be tempted to do so on the areas where you are suffering from dry skin patches . . . dab yourself dry and then immediately moisturize using something like virgin coconut oil . . . it’s a great moisturizer, provides essential nutrients and makes you smell good enough to eat!
Other products such as cocoa butters are also very good, but they take more rubbing in and we’ve already spoken about how that ain’t such a good idea.
Face Masks for Dry Skin
One popular and, to be honest, pretty obvious way to improve the condition of your dry skin is to use a face mask . . . of which there are plenty to choose from. When we’re talking about dry skin patches (which we are, in case you hadn’t noticed) then you should look for face masks which have avocado, honey or milk, they’re all proven champions against dry skin patches. Don’t expect miracles overnight, but stick with one type of treatment for a while to see if it really works before switching to something else.
Give plenty of treatments a try (although you must give each product the chance to really prove itself), but all of these natural products can really benefit dry skin patches, and as long as you continue to follow good lifestyle choices your dry skin patches could soon become a thing of the past, or at least just a very minor, and temporary irritation.
Well she’s certainly got great skin hasn’t she . . . must give that a try!
